Berry Season Is Here, Now!

Berries are everywhere right now and a lot of the varieties have a very short season. If you are looking for alternatives  to some the commonly found berries, you might want to try hunting for some of the hard to find berries that are available from small farmers and at farmers markets. You can click on the Berry tab under Categories to see a list of many other types of berries.

I have been hitting the farmers markets around Northern California looking for as many different types of berry varieties as I can find. Here I have listed some of the common types of berries you are likely to find everywhere along with some of the similar varieties that are a little bit rarer:

Strawberry– Pineberry, Fraises des Bois, White Strawberry

Blackberry– Loganberry, Boysenberry, Olallieberry, Youngberry, Marionberry, Dewberry, Sylvanberry

Raspberry– Tayberry, Golden Raspberry, Sunshine Raspberry

Blueberry– Lemonade Blueberry, Garden Huckleberry

Other berries to try that are used for other applications such as pickling or cooking: Green Strawberry and Mulberry.
